Ponting argued with the umpire, halting the game twice: Jurel was bold while attempting a scoop shot; Pant received a special jersey;
Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Delhi
Capitals (DC) by 12 runs in the 9th match of the 2024 Indian Premier League
(IPL). Delhi, at the Sawai
Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur,
won the toss and chose to bowl. Rajasthan posted 185 runs for 5 wickets,
batting first in 20 overs.
In response, Delhi could only manage 173 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs.
Rishabh
Pant played his 100th match for the
franchise. On this occasion, he was presented with a special jersey by the
team. Meanwhile, in the second inning, Delhi's coach Ponting argued with the umpire over the
impact player rule, resulting in the game being halted twice. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel got bold
while attempting a scoop shot.
1.Pant received a special jersey.
Rishabh
Pant became the first player to play
100 matches for the Delhi Capitals. Before the match, he was given a special
jersey by his teammates, with '100' written along with his name.
Pant made his IPL debut in 2016. In
the same year, he led India in the U19 World Cup. Apart from his debut season,
he has scored over 300 runs every year. No other Delhi batsman has scored more
runs than Pant or hit more sixes (129).
Rishabh Pant has only played for Delhi in the IPL.
2. Kuldeep forced Pant to review; Butler
was out.
During the first innings, on Kuldeep Yadav's suggestion,
Delhi captain Rishabh
Pant took a review. On the second ball of the 8th over, Kuldeep threw the ball
close to the leg stump line. Rajasthan's opening batsman attempted a reverse
sweep but missed, and the ball hit his pads. Despite Kuldeep Yadav's LBW appeal, the umpire
gave not out to Butler.
Delhi Capitals' captain Rishabh Pant
was not in favor of taking the DRS, but Kuldeep approached him and forced him to take the DRS. When
the ball tracking was checked, Butler was declared LBW, and the umpire had to
change his decision.
Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket in four overs.
3. Dhruv Jurel was bold while
attempting a scoop shot.
Rajasthan Royals' middle-order
batsman Dhruv Jurel
got bold while attempting a scoop shot. He lost his wicket in the 18th over. Enrique Nortje bolded him. On
the second ball of the over, Jurel attempted to scoop but went too far to the
offside, and the ball hit his stumps. Jurel could only score 20 runs.
Dhruv Jurel hit three fours in the
inning.
4. Ponting argued with the umpire over
Impact Players, and the game was halted twice.
After the inning break, Rajasthan
Royals' fast bowler Nadeem
Burger brought Impact Player Sandeep Sharma onto the field during the inning.
Before that, Rajasthan had only three foreign players (Shimron Hetmyer, Trent Boult, and Jos Buttler) on the field
during batting. Burger replaced Batsman Hetmyer. In IPL matches, foreign
players can only play as impact players when the team has three foreign players
playing.
However, the issue arose when
Romario Powell came onto the field for Rajasthan. Delhi Capitals' head coach
Ricky Ponting alleged that this West Indian player would become the fifth
foreign player to play in the same match for Rajasthan. Soon, there was a
dispute between the umpire and players, and Warner and Buttler joined umpire Nitin Menon for a
discussion, while Ponting complained to the fourth umpire. Eventually, Powell
was allowed to come onto the field, although Ponting was angry in the dugout.
After that, the game was halted
again, just two balls later. The fourth umpire took the team sheet and
explained to Ponting that the Royals had replaced one foreigner with another.
Hetmyer is in the dugout. This means that they still only have four foreign
players on the field, and Powell has come in as a substitute fielder. They will
do nothing other than field.
The match umpire explained the
impact player rule to Ricky Ponting while holding papers in his hand.
5. Sandeep made a flying catch.
Rajasthan Royals' bowler Sandeep Sharma made a
spectacular catch of David Warner. During the 12th over of Delhi's innings,
Avesh Khan was bowling when Warner tried to drive a full-length delivery.
The ball went outside the edge of
Warner's bat towards the off side. Fielding at short third man, Sandeep Sharma
quickly took the catch. Sandeep's
reaction time during the catch was 0.94 seconds.
